Dear Folks,
Here it is the beginning of the year once again!
Who thought that we’d be welcoming the New Year together?
Come on, at our age ya gotta admit that we really weren’t sure…
But, seriously folks, it’s a new beginning. It’s a place to make resolutions (even though we probably won’t keep ‘em!)
Although the publication is “Living Well-Fifty Plus,” the fact is, most of us are older than that. Me, I’m a very young 60, and I look on the New Year as a challenge.
Have you ever looked back and wondered what your best decade was? Was it in your 20s, when you were poor, but looking forward to a future full of money, love and dreams? (oops! Didn’t mean to steal a Kristofferson lyric there!)
Think about the 30s…enjoying the kids…putting the progeny to bed…reading “goodnight” stories.
Then, of course, came the 40s. Saying “goodbye,” (if you were lucky), to the kids you’d raised and who were setting out on their own.
The 50s didn’t suck…you probably accepted you own mortality and began to believe that the two of you, living in your own “empty nest” could pretty much handle anything life threw your way!
Ah! But the 60s…which is where I am now, is a bit of a “kicker.”
Those of us who have reached this point realize that we are “old,” by any young person’s definition. Sure, we might not FEEL it! (To the best of my mental state, I’m still in my 20s!), but the fact of the matter is, lord help us, we’re looking toward the BIG 7-OH!
Wasn’t it just last year the “Miracle Mets” won the World Series? Was it not just yesterday that Joe Namath won the Super Bowl against all odds? Isn’t Mohammad Ali still “The Champ?”
No, my old friends…it’s 2010, and we’re looking at a whole new world!
As we face the future, with all of its challenges, let us draw on our experience, our maturity and our lust for life and pick ourselves off our recliners and say 2010 will be our best year, ever!
All Best For The New Year,
Frank, Editor
